Deliverable week 7
Branching and Nodes
This is the user's choice. It is a type of interactive structure that allows for users to have in-game freedom. The first of two main elements is Node; The direction that the user chooses to go. When faced with multiple nodes, the user can pick. For an example a location; one can pick where to go. You can start at home (any house.) then choose between three nodes or locations. Now with this there must be a path for each node; this is a branch. The branch will open new options for the user. Once a node is chosen a branch will show the next options.
To try this, I gave myself options and for a week saw what I did when I chose them One day my boyfriend and I chose to go outside (backyard) and play soccer, this then turned into him mowing the lawn and me opting to watch from our hammock. Later in the week my mother and I went to the beach. Originally, we went just for a swim and some ice-cream but a friend of ours happened to be there with a boat so we go to do that as well. I could add to the boat with alcoholic drinks and fishing but didn’t want to go to in detail. Later the following day I realized I needed an outfit for a wedding coming up. Of course, I chose to go to the mall (alone.) I went shopping, had lunch and then chose to drive home.
Call to Action
This is where a product, site, or place will try to grab your attention. Normally this would be to get you to download or buy or use something. Take this website for example ( https://www.francescas.com ) As soon as you enter the site a small box appears. It may look different on other site but I'm willing to bet you've come across it and it looks similar.
Card Sorting
There are two types of card sorting; open and closed. Open card sorting is when one has to group cards with content into groups based on there affiliation. I personally found this to be easier then closed card sorting. Closed card sorting is where the groups are pre-designed for the user and then he or she must place a card in each group. This helped when i had my boyfriend do it, but I proffer the freedom. I found this to be similar to week three's assignment number three.
When I decided to try this out for myself I just grabbed a hand full of cards from a regular deck. I the first two photos you can see my open sorting verses my boyfriends. You can see i chose pares and he chose red verses black. Then in the third photo i made cards that say spade, harts, demand and club (hard to see since i wrote it pencil.) we both put the cards in the exact same spot so only one photo was needed.

Difference Threshold
This is similar to hierarchy. This is the noticeable difference for everyone. I tired the a/c difference to see how my co-works react. Everyone noticed it was cold when i had it set to 63 degrees. I turned it up to 66 and i had three people mention what a nicer day it was and one complain that it was still cold. When i put it up to 70 I had two people say how hot it was and five people say that it was perfect.
I also decided to do a visual at my work while designing a Now hiring flyer. I started with all the same font size to see what they would say. They of course said they wanted things changed. After few excrement the decided they wanted the "now hiring" as big as it can be, and the big man (owner) wanted the company name to almost be as equally big. Here is the end result.
Eye Tracking
This is Really cool! So they have this technology that as you are reading a website or print it can track where your eyes go. Mostly to see what you land on and how you take in the page. If you go to this website there is an awesome video that will tell you all about it (if you are interested)
https://www.tobiidynavox.com/en-us/about/about-us/how-eye-tracking-works/
I decided to try this myself using the "now hiring" poster above. My friend Morgan was my guinea pig. She was a great sport. Now I don't have the technology so i asked her step by step to tell me what she saw and where her eyes were moving from.
She said she immediately noticed the now hiring text then noticed the color. she said that because of the color she was drawn to the information and the bottom then she went back to the top and read everything like a you would a book. I asked if anything else stood out and she commented about how she didn't like the size of the logo. (witch I agree about but the owner gets final say.) Sorry no photos for this one but do watch the video its very interesting.
Faux Choice
This is also known as false choice. It is exactly as it seems. You think you have a choice but you don't really. Many website you get do this, Facebook for example. Especially the phone version. Assuming you have the Fb app and the messenger app you will have noticed this. They have designed so if you click on the messenger section in the Fb app it will open up your Messenger app. This is of course one of many examples.
there are other portals in Facebook that will do the same thing. If you are on a friends page and click message them it will also take you to the app. To make it easy they kept the symbol the same.
Feedback
It is as it sounds and as I'm sure you know what it means. It is just that, your opinion on your experience. Weather that be about a product, or use of something or anything. Some examples are on our school email we often are asked to review our experience at the end of each semester. However there is an intent feedback as well. This can be visual ques o verbal responses. I decided to try this out by taking a picture of my friends when i said they looked pretty. I wanted to judge if they liked the complement. As you'll see the 1st two reacted well, but the 3rd question why I was calling him pretty and the 4th tried to hide her face with my book.
Frame Mobility
My works website is a perfect example for this. (www.mlcy.com) If you go to the inventory section each coach will show you a brake down of the inside of the coach. you will also see a great example of this on the features tab. Where they brake down whats what so you can get the whole picture.
Geon Theory
This is where see the brake down of shapes from an image. For example a house (see below.)
I decided to try this out for myself and asked my boyfriend and mom to pick apart the shapes of a dog. Here is what they got.
It was interesting to see what they decided on. Cody decided on all ovals where as my mom chose many different shapes all making up a dog.
Mediated Reality
We are seeing a lot of this surfacing today. There is of course many examples. To start there is Augmented reality; this is where your devise and the real word react together. An example would be Pokemon go, you have the option of capturing them in lets say your living room or in a park. There is also Virtual reality; this is where you are inserted into a world that only exists in the digital realm. A great example for this would be the movie ready player one.
Here is a blog that was a great read about the diferences. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-augmented-reality-and-mediated-reality-1
I also tried both of these out for myself i personally proffer virtual versed augment. However I believe that it is because of my phone,. I do not have the fanciest of phones nor do i want one. I believe this is where both of these fail. They are meant for more expensive technology. There great in theory but nothing beats the really world. I see how in marketing and graphic design would benefit from the realities.
